TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Truck Business Association (Aptrindo) insisted government to not restrict truck operations on certain toll roads and national roads during 2017 Christmas and 2018 New Year holidays, even though the government has shortened the restriction from 5 days to 4 days.
Aptrindo chairman Gemilang Tarigan said that businessmen including truck owners and goods vendors are trying to push business to meet the end of year target. He believes that it is not urgent for the government to restrict truck operations on certain toll roads and national roads during 2017 Christmas and 2018 New Year holidays.
“I don’t see the urgency, meanwhile, companies of both trucks and factory are trying to catch up with end-of-year target. If we can, we want to have longer nights, lengthen by the government,” Tarigan expressed.
He explained that the characteristics of people during Christmas and New Year are different from those of Eid-al Fitr. On Christmas and New Year, he went on, more people go on a trip for holiday.
As a result, he claimed that the government should not have disregarded logistic freights that exert influence on the economy. Moreover, he continued, government has not exempted trucks loading export and import goods.
