TEMPO.CO, Bandung - The Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation Center (PVMBG) recorded a higher potential of ground movement in October compared to September in all over Indonesia. The regions include Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Bali, Maluku, and Papua. Meanwhile, the Nusa Tenggara area has a relatively low ground movement potential.
“People should be alert on the potential increase of ground movement especially in Java,” said the Head of PVMBG Kasbani on Monday, October 9.

Residents of the Java Island must be more attentive to the situation considering that the island has a higher population density, and it is also where the massive land conversion occurred, compared to other regions.
PVMBG released a report on Geological disasters per October 9, which revealed that there had been landslides in 13 Indonesian regions. Other regions with an active ground movement include East Java, West Java, Central Java, Bali, Riau, Lampung, and West Sumatra.
Kasbani reminded every region in Indonesia to start being more aware to potential landslides since most regions in the country have entered the rainy season. He also requested regional governments to be more active in maintaining their regions.
