TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta deputy governor-elect Sandiaga Uno met with Probosutedjo, an entrepreneur and the brother of second Indonesian President Soeharto, to congratulate him on his 87th birthday.

“I congratulated him, and he said that he was happy [with my victory in the election]. He told me to be trustworthy and not to betray the people,” Sandiaga said at Probosutedjo’s residence at Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Monday, May 1, 2017.

Earlier, Probosutedjo declared his support for incumbent candidate Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok.

Sandiaga, who came with his wife Nurasia Uno, added that Probosutedjo advised him to pay attention to the education sector.

“He cares about education very much. I am expected to fulfill Jakarta residents’ rights. He has invested a lot in the education sector,” Sandiaga explained.

Also attending the occasion were President Soehatro’s daughter siti Hediyati Hariyadi or Titiek Soeharto and Regional Representatives Council (DPD) ethics board chairman Andi Mappetahang Fatwa.

Sandi revealed that it was the first time he met with Titiek after the election day.

“I thanked Titiek for declaring her support for me, even she’s belong to a different party. That’s the beauty of democracy,” Sandi added.

Titied is a lawmaker from the Functional Group Party, which endorsed Ahok as a governor candidate.

Sandiaga added that Titiek supported him and Anies Baswedan because she knew their characters very well.
