Google Doodle Celebrates Komodo National Park`s 37th Birthday

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Google has their own special way in celebrating the 37th anniversary of the Komodo National Park today on Monday, March 6, 2017. Through Google Doodle, this globally acclaimed search engine company invites its users to test their knowledge regarding the Komodo (Varanus komodoensis) species in an interactive quiz.
The Google users are required to answer five questions about Komodo, namely its size, the portion of its diet, the capability of its senses, attitude, and origins. Netizens are also able to search information about Komodo, such as the location of the Komodo National Park, the current status of the species, the Komodo’s weight, until their running capability.

The Komodo National Park is located between Sumbawa Island and Flores. The park was established back in 1980 with the intention to preserve the Komodo species and its natural habitat.
These goals were then broadened to protect the biodiversity that exists in and surrounding the island. UNESCO officially named the park as a World Heritage Site and Man and Biosphere Reserve in 1986.
The Komodo National Park consist of three main islands, which are the Komodo Island, Rinca Island, and Padar Island, while also including a number of small islands. The size of the park is 1,817 kilometers square in total.
Other than being a home for the historic creature, Komodo National Park also provides protection for other species such as endemic rodents and Timor deer species. The waters around the park have also become the home for more than 1,000 marine species, 260 coral reef species, and 70 coral species. Other marine species living in the area are dugongs, sharks, manta rays, 14 types of whale species, dolphins, and turtles.
