TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - It has been a decade since Munir Said Thalib passed away. However, the mastermind behind the death of the human rights activist is still in the dark. "We hope the Jokowi government is brave enough to solve the Munir case, considering there has been nothing [related to the solving] for the past ten years," said Luthfi J. Kurniawan, the Omah Munir Association's daily organizer, today.
The Jokowi government, he said, should have the guts to solve the case, and find the mastermind behind the cruel murder. So far, only former Garuda pilot Pollycarpus Budihari Priyanto was found guilty and sentenced to 14 years in jail. Former State Intelligence Agency (BIN) deputy chairman Muchdi Purwoprandjono was found not guilty at the court.
Moreover, then BIN's chief Hendropriyono was never questioned by the authorities. Hendro is currently the Jokowi-JK transition team's adviser. "The mastermind behind Munir's murder is still out there freely," Lutfhi said.
Lutfi hopes the president-elect would be courageous to finish the unsolved human rights violations cases, including Munir's. "The Munir case can become an entrance to reveal other cases of human rights violations."
