TEMPO.CO, Jakarta-Deputy Speaker of the House Fadli Zon said that the parliament had evaluate their performance related to the national legislation which did not reach target. “We have evaluate ourselves, there are a lot of shortcomings but a lot was done as mandated by law," said Fadli at the parliament building, Friday, October 2.
Fadli Zon said the legislation is not only the responsibility of the parliament. "Making laws is not only the task of the House. There are also elements of the government and the Council," he said.
According to the Gerindra politician, many problems that contributed to the lagged performance. "The problem is the parliament is not a legislation factory. Many of the proposed bills are revised bills, some are new such as the disability bill,” he said.
Fadli also said that the national legislation program was influenced by politics. “The Criminal Code Law had been proposed since the 1960s, but has not been completed because of political factors," he said.
Fadli acknowledged the delay and now in the process to be accelerated, including by asking the Legislative Agency to update the public every stage of the legislative process and a reduction of the recess period to two weeks. “The recess is not a holiday, but an obligation to meet with constituents," said Fadli.
