TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Trade Minister Rachmat Gobel called on traders not to raise the price too high during the fasting month and days before Eid al-Fitr this year.
However, the minister said that he could understand if traders want to capitalize on the moments by reaping more benefits than usual.
"However, the increase should not be more than 2 percent from the normal price,” the Minister said on Friday.
Rachmat also expressed his worry that if traders play with the prices, it could cause high inflation.
Based on the monitoring done by the Trade Ministry, the prices of rice, imported soybean, beef, chicken, and shallot have increased by 0.05 to 12.09 percent.
