TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - PT Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Pelindo I) is preparing Kuala Tanjung port construction in Batubara Regency, South Sumatra, to support President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo’s sea toll road project. Pelindo I business director Syahputra Sembiring said on Wednesday, December 03, 2014, the construction would begin in February 2015.

Although the project’s concession permit has yet been issued by the Transportation Ministry, Pelindo I is planning to accelerate the development by establishing a new subsidiary company PT Prima Multi Terminal, Sembiring said.

Sembiring added that Pelindo has gained the environmental permit on October 1, 2014, for the construction. The company has also signed a cooperation agreement with Port of Rotterdam for Port Management Services in Developing Port of Kuala Tanjung.

Sembiring explained that the establishment of PT Prima Multi Terminal and cooperation with Port of Rotterdam reflected the company’s commitment to accelerate Kuala Tanjung Port to support the sea toll road project.

“By increasing the capacity of ports, logistic services would be more efficient, easier, cheaper and faster, in order to improve the national competitiveness,” Sembiring said.
