TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – State-owned Enterprises Minister Rini Mariani Soemarmo has appointed Edi Sukmoro, PT Kereta Api Indonesia's (PT KAI) former managing director of non-production assets, as the new CEO of PT KAI. Edi replaced Ignasius Jonan, who was named as Minister of Transportation by President Joko Widodo on October 27.
Rinis said his appointment was based on a fit and proper test conducted as well as Jonan's own referral. Jonan's referral, Rini said, is a main consideration since the man has better knowledge about the candidates' strength and weaknesses.
"There were other candidates from the board of commissioners. But based on Jonan's reference and other consideration, we chose Edi," Rini told the press on Wednesday, October 29.
Three SOE COE seats are still vacant: PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom), PT Pertamina, and PT Pindad. The CEOs of Pindad and Telkom were assigned as ministers in Jokowi's cabinet. While Pertamina's former CEO Karen Agustiawan resigned on October 1, 2014.
