Chairul Tanjung to Lead IMT-GT Meeting in Aceh

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 20th Indonesia Malaysia Thailand Growth Triangle (IMT-GT) Meeting is set to be held between September 13 and 14, 2014 in Aceh and Coordinating Minister for the Economy Chairul Tanjung will lead the meeting, according to Aceh Governor Abdullah Zaini to the press on Saturday, September 6, 2014.

Zaini said that he has already met Chairul in Jakarta to discuss the event.

According to Zaini, the Malaysian delegation will be led by a minister in the Prime Minister's Department of Economic Planning Unit, HE Senator Dato Sri Abdul Wahid bin Omar, while the Thailand delegation will be led by the Secretary General of the Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board, H.E. Mr. Arkhan Termpittayapaisith.

During his stay in Aceh, Chaerul is also expected to give a public lecture at Syiah Kuala University (UNSYIAH) and visit Lhoksuemawe industrial zone in Arun.

Zaini stated that through the IMT-GT cooperation, the private sector will continues to be driven as the engine of economic growth. For that purpose, a forum known as Joint Business Council called (JBC), which serves as a forum for entrepreneurs in the three regions, has been set up.

JBC will be held on September 11 at the Hermes Palace hotel and a number of businessmen from the three countries will be present at the forum.

The businessman from Aceh, he added, can also take part in a business to business forum, so that local businesses can also play their part in their home soil.

For the record, the IMT-GT cooperation began from Ministerial Meeting (PTM) in Langkawi, Malaysia, on July 20, 1993 and is aimed at promoting welfare and economic growth in border areas of the three countries.
