TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta – Earlier in 2010, 75 historical artifacts, mostly golden masks, were stolen from the Sonobudoyo Museum in Yogyakarta. The mask masterpieces, said the Head of the Museum, Riharyani, were suspected to be form Majapahit era, worn in the funeral of Queen Ghayathri of Majapahit (Ghayatri Rajapatni).
Riharyani explained that the masks, which was made from 18 carat gold, has a historical value that exceeds it's monetary value.
However, Daud Aris Tanudirjo, the head of Sonobudoyo Development Team, doubted that the masks were from Majapahit era because it has a style that does not match the Majapahit collection.
One thousand days have passed since the Sonobudoyo heist, but the police still has no clue on the whereabouts of the burglars and the lost treasures.
