TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian women's singles player, Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, was withdrawn from the Indonesian squad that will undergo the Asian tour, including the 2024 Japan Open and the 2024 Korea Open. She reportedly has chickenpox.

According to the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI), Gregoria had been feeling unwell since Friday, August 16, 2024. On Saturday morning, she was immediately rushed and treated at Medistra Hospital, Jakarta.

PBSI National Training Center doctor Tjahyadi Soegiono said that based on the results of the laboratory examination, Gregoria had the chickenpox virus.

"From the lab results in the form of blood tests that have been carried out, Gregoria has a viral infection and has been diagnosed with varicella (chickenpox)," said Tjahyadi.

In addition to being absent from the Asian tour, the 2024 Paris Olympics bronze medalist also canceled her flight to the Indonesian capital Nusantara to attend the celebration of the 79th Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

Meanwhile, in the women's singles, with Gregoria's withdrawal, the women's singles at the Japan Open only has Ester Nurumi Tri Wardoyo left.

"Highly unfortunate that big sis Grego (Gregoria) participation was canceled. Even so, I will remain enthusiastic. Moreover, this is my first tournament at the Japan Open. I will play aggresively," said Ester.

Meanwhile, at the 2024 Japan Open tournament, the world's top players will compete for a total prize of US$850,000.
