TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Ma’ruf Amin departs for Nusantara Capital City (IKN) today, Thursday, September 12, 2024. He will join President Joko Widodo or Jokowi at the last Cabinet Meeting on Friday.
“The Vice President will accompany President Jokowi in the last cabinet meeting tomorrow in IKN,” said VP Spokesperson, Masduki Baidlowi, in a text message today. Ma’ruf Amin will head back to Jakarta after the plenary meeting.
The Cabinet Secretary, Pramono Anung, previously reported that the Cabinet Meeting in IKN will likely be the last for Jokowi’s administration. All ministers in the Onward Indonesia Cabinet and heads of governmental agencies are scheduled to attend the IKN meeting.
“I must prepare for the meeting,” Pramono said on Tuesday. Pramono is set to run in the Jakarta gubernatorial election. He already submitted his resignation from Jokowi’s Cabinet as per September 22.
President Jokowi already headed to IKN this morning, boarding the Presidential Aircraft Indonesia-1 from the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base. Jokowi landed at Sultan Aji Muhammad Sulaiman Sepinggan International Airport, then continued his journey on a helicopter and arrived in IKN at around 11:00 a.m. local time.
Jokowi was scheduled to meet and brief the officials of the Indonesian military and the National Police at State Palace, IKN, today.
The Deputy of the Press Bureau of the Presidential Secretariat, Yusuf Permana, said Jokowi will conduct several groundbreakings for the next three days in IKN. “Including inauguration of completed construction,” he said.
The Friday plenary meeting won’t be the first Cabinet Meeting in the new capital. Previously, Jokowi led the first Cabinet Meeting in IKN on August 12.
Jokowi and Ma’ruf Amin already bid their farewell to the public as the end of their term looms. The head of state even apologized multiple times for his shortcomings during his time as the Indonesian President.
“(I) apologize if there are policies you are not content with,” Jokowi said at Delimas Raya Market, North Sumatra, on Tuesday, September 10.
