PON 2024; Lifter Imam Jamaludin Breaks Records, Muhammad Rifqy Bags Gold

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java weightlifter Imam Jamaludin broke several national records en route to winning the gold medal in the men's 109-kilogram weightlifting class at the National Sports Week or PON 2024 in Aceh-North Sumatra. He recorded a total lift of 338 kilograms during the competition at Seramoe Sports Hall, Banda Aceh, on Tuesday, September 10, 2024.
With this exceptional achievement, Imam surpassed the previous total lift record of 325 kilograms and the PON record of 322 kilograms. He recorded the best snatch lift of 148 kilograms and the best clean and jerk lift of 190 kilograms.
He also broke national and PON records for his clean and jerk lift, surpassing the previous marks of 189 kilograms and 187 kilograms, respectively.
This marks the third gold medal for the West Java contingent in weightlifting. Previously, Dewani Ramadhan and Tsatbitha Alfiah Ramadhani secured gold medals in the women's 76 kg and 64 kg classes, respectively.
The silver medal was awarded to Acehnese lifter Teuku Yulianda with a total lift of 295 kilograms. Yulianda recorded the best snatch lift of 126 kilograms and the best clean and jerk lift of 169 kilograms.
The bronze medal went to Central Javanese lifter Arifin Puji Saputra, with a total lift of 291 kilograms. Denia recorded the best snatch lift of 83 kilograms and the best clean and jerk lift of 104 kilograms.
The men's 109-kilogram weightlifting class featured a total of five participants. In addition to Imam, Yulianda, and Arifin, the other two participants were Bayu Saputra from Lampung and Muhammad Faridho from North Sumatra.
Muhammad Rifqy Dominates the +109 Kg Class
Jambi lifter Muhammad Rifqy Ramadhan clinched a gold medal in the above 109-kilogram class for men's weightlifting at the 21st PON held at Seramoe Sports Hall, Banda Aceh, on Tuesday.
This marks Jambi's second gold medal in weightlifting, following the gold medal won by national athlete Juliana Klarisa last Thursday.
Rifqy, a gold medalist at the 20th PON in Papua, achieved a total lift of 336 kilograms. He recorded a remarkable snatch lift of 146 kilograms and a best clean and jerk lift of 190 kilograms.
He only failed once in six total attempts. In the snatch, he successfully lifted weights of 135 kilograms, 142 kilograms, and 146 kilograms. His only failed attempt was in the third clean and jerk, at a weight of 200 kilograms. He successfully lifted clean and jerk weights of 180 kilograms and 190 kilograms.
The silver medal went to East Java lifter Bima Aji Ramadhani. Bima achieved a total lift of 303 kilograms, with the best snatch lift of 133 kilograms and the best clean and jerk lift of 170 kilograms.
East Kalimantan lifter Geby Feby Yandry bagged the bronze medal with a total lift of 281 kilograms. Geby recorded the best snatch lift of 126 kilograms and the best clean and jerk lift of 155 kilograms.
Six lifters participated in the men's weightlifting class above 109 kilograms. In addition to Rifqy, Bima, and Geby, the other three lifters were Riky Wulandri from Aceh, Alif Wildan Hanaf from Banten, and Rasis Azazi from North Sumatra.
