University of Indonesia Denies Data Breach of Center for Independent Learning

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The University of Indonesia or UI denied that the Center for Independent Learning (CIL) data was hacked and sold on BreachForums as reported by the cybersecurity company FalconFeeds.io on social media platform X.

Head of the university’s Public Relations and Public Information Openness (KIP) Bureau Amelita Lusia said she received many questions regarding the data breach report. 

"The report said the data breach includes personal information including registration number, identification number, name, place of birth, date of birth, gender, height, weight, address, telephone number, email, educational background, work experience, and others," said Amelita when confirmed on Friday, July 19, 2024.

Amelita said the university immediately carried out a comprehensive investigation upon learning about the possible data breach.

"Thus far, there is no indication of a leak for data stored in UI’s systems, including from Center for Independent Learning as was pictured in social media platforms,” she said, 

Amel stated the post about the data breach alluded to CIL, which caused public anxiety. "In reality, we did not find any data breach from our various systems, including CIL," said Amel.

"This incident has encouraged us to up the cyber security of UI’s data and information systems. We are thankful," said Amel.
