TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - National Police Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo and Military Commander General Agus Subiyanto inspected the Tribrata Jaya operation post located at the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Main Stadium and Madya Stadium on Wednesday. The visit aimed to ensure security preparations for the grand mass led by Pope Francis on Thursday, September 5, 2024.
Sigit instructed all TNI-Polri personnel to ensure that the attendees of the mass with Pope Francis are well-served. He also estimated that the mass would be attended by 87,000 Catholics.
"Together with the Commander, we want to ensure that the entire series of security preparations, particularly for the peak event scheduled for tomorrow evening, can be carried out properly," Sigit said in Jakarta on Wednesday, September 4, 2024.
Alongside the Military Commander, Sigit emphasized the importance of ensuring security measures and services for all participants of the mass, including transportation arrangements, parking management, and traffic control.
Sigit revealed that traffic diversions would be implemented in several areas tomorrow to prevent congestion. He also urged the Traffic Police (Polantas) to inform the public about these diversions.
"We have asked the traffic department to inform the public about alternative routes that can be used during the mass," he said.
Furthermore, Sigit mentioned that the organizers had provided videotrons at various points for Catholics who could not attend the mass inside the GBK area.
"Those who are unable to enter can participate in the service at designated locations arranged by the organizers," he added.
Sigit also stated that security personnel would conduct checks on all attendees wishing to enter. They will be allowed entry after registering and receiving special wristbands.
"We are ensuring that everything is thoroughly secure, both for visitors and other mass participants, especially for Pope Francis and his team," he said.
In connection with this, Military Commander General Agus Subiyanto revealed that security would be divided into three rings, with a total of 9,000 TNI-Polri personnel deployed.
"Ring 1 will be managed by the Presidential Security Force (Paspampres), Ring 2 by the TNI, and Ring 3 by the Police. A total of 9,000 personnel will be deployed across several locations that Pope Francis will visit," Agus said.
