How Foreigners Can Get KITAS in Indonesia: What's Needed, How Much It Costs

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - How to get a KITAS is something that must be known by foreign nationals or foreigners who want to stay temporarily in Indonesia.

KITAS or Limited Stay Permit Card is an important document that must be owned by foreigners because it is a sign of legality to live in Indonesia.

To get a KITAS, there are conditions and costs that must be met first. To better understand the requirements, costs, and how to get a KITAS in Indonesia, here is the information for you.

Requirements for obtaining KITAS

Not all foreigners who apply for KITAS can be granted. Based on the Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia Number 29 of 2021 concerning Visas and Stay Permits article 72, Limited Stay Permits can be granted to:

1. Foreigners who enter Indonesian territory using a limited stay visa.

2. Children born in Indonesian territory who at the time of birth the father and/or mother is a holder of a Limited Stay Permit.

3. Foreigners who are granted a change of status from a Visit Stay Permit.

4. Captains, crew members, and foreign experts on board ships, floating devices, or installations operating in Indonesian waters and jurisdiction in accordance with statutory provisions.

5. Children of foreigners who are legally married to Indonesian citizens (WNI).

If you have met one of the five requirements above, foreigners can apply for a KITAS at the Immigration office and prepare a number of required documents, such as: 

- Passport.

- Applicant's letter from the guarantor.

- Guarantor's letter from the guarantor.

- E-KTP (electronic ID card) / domicile certificate of the guarantor.

- Certificate of residence.

- Power of attorney letter with sufficient stamp duty in the case of management through a power of attorney.

KITAS Fee

Regulations on KITAS fees are regulated in the Regulation of the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia Number 9 / PMK.02 / 2022 concerning Types and Rates on Types of Non-Tax State Revenue for Urgent Needs for Immigration Services Applicable to the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and Regulation of the Minister of Law and Human Rights of the Republic of Indonesia Number 28 of 2019 concerning PNBP Rates within the Ministry of Law and Human Rights. The details of KITAS fees in Indonesia are as follows.

1. Limited Stay Permit (ITAS): VITAS Upon Arrival: Rp750,000

2. ITAS with a maximum validity period of 6 months: Rp1,000,000

3. ITAS valid for a maximum period of 1 year: Rp1,500,000

4. ITAS with a validity period of 2 years at most: Rp2,000,000

5. Special ITAS with a maximum validity period of 5 years for Special Economic Zones (KEK): Rp5,000,000

6. Approval of Limited Stay Permit for workers in Indonesian waters: Rp1,000,000

7. Limited Stay Permit for workers in Indonesian waters: Rp300,000

8. Limited Stay Permit not for the purpose of working for a second home with a maximum stay of 5 years: Rp12,000,000

9. Limited Stay Permit not for the purpose of working for a second home for followers (husband/wife/children/parents) with a maximum period of stay of 5 years: Rp3,500,000.

How to get a KITAS

For foreigners who want and KITAS can take care of it at the immigration office of the domicile area. The process or flow of KITAS management at the immigration office is as follows.

1. Fill and submit the application file.

2. Checking the completeness of the requirements by the officer.

3. Payment of immigration fees in accordance with statutory provisions.

4. Interview, identification, data verification, and biometric data collection of photos and fingerprints.

5. Issuance of a Limited Stay Permit with the printing of the Limited Stay Permit which also contains a Re-entry Permit.

6. Submission of documents.
