TEMPO.CO, JakartaSoekarno-Hatta Airport, Indonesia's busiest airport, has experienced a significant surge in passenger traffic, surpassing pre-pandemic levels in the first half of 2024. PT Angkasa Pura II (AP II), the international airport's main operator, announced that the airport served a staggering 26 million passengers between January and June 2024.

“The number of passengers at Soekarno-Hatta Airport during the first semester of 2024 reached 26 million people. This is roughly 2 percent higher compared to the pre-pandemic first half of 2019, when we saw 25.48 million passengers,” Cin Asmoro, Acting SVP of AP II Corporate Secretary, said in a statement in Jakarta, Wednesday, July 17.

Asmoro also highlighted a 6% increase in passenger traffic compared to the first half of 2023, which recorded 24.45 million passengers. This upward trend aligns with the official end of the pandemic in Indonesia, declared in June 2023.

All stakeholders at the international airport are actively working together to further bolster air travel, such as reactivating flight routes suspended during the pandemic, opening new routes to expand connectivity, and increasing flight frequencies on existing routes.

“We strive to continuously improve and enhance Soekarno-Hatta Airport's contribution to Indonesia's economic growth, specifically within the tourism sector,” Asmoro said.

Dwi Ananda, Executive General Manager of Soekarno-Hatta Airport, said that throughout the first half of 2024, the airport handled a total of 175,359 flights.

Specifically for June 2024, the five busiest domestic routes to and from the airport were Denpasar, Surabaya, Medan, Makassar, and Balikpapan. Meanwhile, the top five busiest international routes were Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Jeddah, Doha, and Hong Kong.
