Indonesia AirAsia Launches New Direct Flights of Hong Kong - Bali and Jakarta

TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - Low-cost airline Indonesia AirAsia has expanded its Asian network with the introduction of direct flight routes from Jakarta and Bali to Hong Kong. “This new route opens up opportunities to bring more passengers to explore mainland China,” stated Veranita Yosephine, President Director of Indonesia AirAsia, on Friday, August 30, 2024.
According to her, the launch of these routes underscores the airline's commitment to expanding its reach across Asia. Following its successful presence in ASEAN and Australia, the airline has solidified its position as a leading carrier offering a wide range of destinations.
“Hong Kong has long been a popular destination for Indonesian tourists for vacation, shopping, and business opportunities,” said Veranita.
By offering direct flights, the airline aims to support the Indonesian government's efforts to attract more tourists from Hong Kong. The airline believes that this new route will strengthen tourism ties between the two countries and provide unforgettable experiences for passengers.
Veranita expressed her enthusiasm for the launch of these direct flights, highlighting their potential to facilitate travel for Indonesian tourists and enhance tourism relations between Indonesia and Hong Kong.
According to the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), the number of Indonesian tourists visiting Hong Kong from January to July 2024 increased by a significant 76.2 percent to 208,000 visits compared to the same period in 2023 with 118,000 visits.
Data from the Indonesian Central Statistics Agency (BPS) also shows a positive trend, with foreign tourists from Hong Kong to Indonesia reaching 13,673 visits from January to June 2024, nearly equaling the total visits for the entire year of 2023 which amounted to 13,885.
“With the introduction of these direct flights from Jakarta and Bali to Hong Kong, we anticipate a continued increase in tourist traffic between Indonesia and Hong Kong for the remainder of 2024,” said Veranita.
