TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi entrusted the issue of Palestinian independence to Commission I of the House of Representatives (DPR) during her farewell speech at the end of her term at a working meeting in the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
Retno hoped that Indonesia would continue to support Palestine's struggle against the ongoing humanitarian conflict with Israel. She emphasized that has earned international respect. “Because of its consistent defense of justice and humanity, particularly for the Palestinian cause.”
She reiterated the importance of Indonesia's continued support for Palestine, highlighting the conflict's fundamental issues of justice and humanity. She urged Indonesia not to abandon the Palestinian people.
“Do not leave the Palestinian people alone while their rights are being violated,” she underlined.
According to Retno, the government and the DPR have strengthened and supported each other in advancing Indonesia's international standing. She expressed her honor of having served as Indonesia's foreign minister for the past decade.
Despite the impending end of her term, Retno pledged to continue contributing to Indonesia as much as possible. She also expressed confidence in the DPR Commission I's continued dedication and efforts.
Several cabinet ministers from the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet delivered their farewell speeches during working meetings with their respective partner commissions, including Retno.
“I wish you all the best in your future endeavors. I apologize for any shortcomings during my tenure and once again urge you to never tire of loving and serving Indonesia. Thank you,” Retno Marsudi concluded.
The cabinet of President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo will end on October 20, 2024, coinciding with the inauguration of the elected president and vice president, Prabowo Subianto-Gibran Rakabuming Raka, who will serve for the 2024-2029 period.
