TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has revealed that they have successfully located the cars belonging to fugitive suspect Harun Masiku, who is wanted in connection with a bribery case. Nawawi Pomolango, the KPK’s interim chairman, also confirmed that the KPK is actively continuing the search for the politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP).
“Yesterday, we discovered the cars that he had parked for years,” Nawawi said in Puncak Bogor, West Java, on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
Nawawi assured that the anti-graft agency is committed to the case and is actively investigating the bribery charges against Harun Masiku. He denied rumors that the KPK had ceased handling the case, emphasizing that he personally contacts KPK investigator Rossa Purbo Bekti to inquire about the progress of Harun's case. “I call him almost every week,” he said.
The Location of Harun Masiku's Car
KPK Investigation Director Asep Guntur Rahayu explained that investigators found Harun Masiku's car in the Thamrin Residence apartment complex, Jakarta, on June 25, 2024. “It had been parked there for two years,” Asep stated in Puncak Bogor, West Java, on Thursday, September 12, 2024.
Asep also revealed that KPK investigators obtained important documents stored in the car that were allegedly used by Harun Masiku. “We found documents related to HM (Harun Masiku) inside the car,” he said.
Although Asep confirmed the discovery of Harun Masiku's car, he did not specify the type of vehicle. The car, allegedly used by Harun Masiku, had been parked since 2022, two years after the PDIP politician was declared a fugitive by the KPK.
Harun Masiku was named a suspect by the KPK in a case of alleged gifts or promises to state administrators related to the determination of elected candidates for the 2019-2024 House of Representatives (DPR) members at the General Elections Commission (KPU).
Harun is a suspect in a bribery case involving 2017-2022 KPU Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan. The bribery is suspected to have been offered to secure Harun's position as a DPR member from the PDIP faction, replacing Nazarudin Kiemas who died in March 2019. However, Harun Masiku has consistently evaded summonses from KPK investigators and has been on the wanted list (DPO) since January 17, 2020.
Harun Masiku's Car Under KPK Surveillance
Based on Tempo's records in 2020, the KPK searched the residence of PDIP politician Harun Masiku at the Thamrin Residences Apartment, Jakarta, on Tuesday, January 14, 2020. In addition to searching the apartment, investigators sealed Harun's car, which was parked in the apartment's parking area.
“Our field agents have obtained significant documents, including clues to the whereabouts of suspect HAR (Harun),” said Acting KPK spokesperson Ali Fikri, on Sunday, January 19, 2020.
Based on Tempo's monitoring, a metallic black Toyota Camry car with police number B 8351 WB, belonging to Harun, was parked in the P3 parking area of the Thamrin Residences Apartment. Several stickers reading 'Under KPK Supervision' were affixed to the front, side, and back of the car.
The car is believed to have been parked there before the KPK conducted a sting operation on January 8, 2020. An apartment employee reported seeing Harun exiting the elevator with a suitcase that morning. However, he did not drive his car but instead boarded a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV). Since then, Harun Masiku has not been seen again.
