Bawaslu Finds No Violation by Jakarta Election Independent Candidate in Alleged Voter IDs Misuse

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) said Dharma Pongrekun-Kun Wardana did not violate Election Law for misusing Jakarta voter IDs to register as gubernatorial candidates in the upcoming regional head election.
The Coordinator for Public Relations, Data, and Information of Jakarta Bawaslu Quin Pegagan said on Thursday via messaging app that the pair’s action to misuse voter IDs “has not fulfilled the criteria under Article 185A paragraph (1) on Gubernatorial, Regent, and Mayor elections.”
Bawaslu, however, suspected Dharma Pongrekun and Kun Wardana of administrative, criminal, and ethical violations. Bawaslu has recommended the case to the General Elections Commission (KPU), the Metro Jaya Police Department, and the Elections Ethics Council.
Previously, the Coordinator of the Legal, Education, and Training Division at Jakarta Bawaslu, Sakhroji, said Bawaslu will investigate the misuse of voter IDs allegation by Dharma Pongrekun-Kun Wardana at Jakarta regional election. If a criminal offense is found, Bawaslu will forward the case to Jakarta Metro Police.
“Bawaslu will recommend the case to KPU if it finds allegations of administrative violation,” he said on August 20.
As many as 300 Jakarta residents reported misuse of IDs to appear supporting independent candidate pair Dharma Pongrekun-Kun Wardana at the Jakarta gubernatorial election. “They did not support the pair, and we are still opening the complaint post,” Sakhroji said at the time.
Bawaslu has submitted a letter to the Jakarta General Elections Commission (KPU) requesting that the data of the 300 affected residents be updated in the nomination information system (SILON), reflecting their actual support status.
“If the status is MS (meeting the requirements), the Jakarta KPU should revise it to TMS (not meeting the requirements) because the residents who complained don’t give their consent to support the independent candidate pair,” he stressed.
