TEMPO.CO, Depok - The University of Indonesia (UI) on Saturday said that the research outcomes of its Faculty of Engineering's Research Center for Advanced Vehicles (RCAVe) are expected to help support the national electric vehicle (EV) industry.

"We hope our research projects in electric vehicles will continue and get a significant increase in technological development," the research center's head, Professor Feri Yusivar, said.

Through the research center's ongoing consistent and innovative endeavors, it is hoped that the RCAVe's research outcomes would not just contribute to the development of the EV industry, he said. The implementation of EV technology in the EV industry is also expected to become a progressive step to enhance energy efficiency and environmental sustainability, he added.

Yusivar then shared the recent success of a joint team of researchers from the RCAVe and Petrosea in converting a diesel-powered bus into an electric battery bus.

The bus was showcased at the Busworld Southeast Asia expo in Jakarta on May 15–17, 2024.

He said that the automotive exhibition was joined by 58 exhibitors from six countries. They included bus manufacturers and makers of automotive spare parts.

According to the UI Faculty of Engineering's official website, which ANTARA accessed from here on Saturday, in 2022, UI had also showcased its electric bus at the PERIKLINDO Electric Vehicle Show (PEVS) in Jakarta.

The bus, called the UI Electric Bus MD12E NF type, has been tested with 48 passengers.

With a battery power of 315.85 kWh, the UI Electric Bus can cover a distance of 250 kilometers. Its battery only requires to be charged 1.5–2 hours.
