TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Istiqlal Mosque in Central Jakarta provides 4,000 to 6,000 boxes of free takjil (light snacks eaten by Muslims to break fast) during Ramadan. The amount of free takjil offered by the mosque has increased compared to the previous year.
"Last year, we prepared 3,000 boxes for iftar every Monday to Thursday. This year we increased it to 4,000 boxes," said Daily Chairman of the Istiqlal Mosque Management Agency (BPMI) Ismail Chawidu, reported by Antara, Tuesday, March 12, 2024.
From Friday to Sunday, the Istiqlal Mosque provides 6,000 boxes of takjil. This number has increased compared to last year’s 4,000 takjil boxes.
The free takjil program is assisted by 11 caterers. Istiqlal Mosque organizers aim to prevent the food from becoming stale.
"We don't set up a public kitchen. As many as 11 caterers assist the process as it is impossible for one caterer to handle serving 4,000-6,000 boxes. We also ensure the food doesn't get stale because it has to be ready by 04:00 p.m.," Ismail said.
Ismail also urges parents to accompany their children in the mosque environment and to dress neatly and politely.
