TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono responded to the ratification of the Jakarta Special Region or DKJ Law, which was passed by President Joko Jokowi Widodo on April 25, 2024. The law outlines the transition of the capital city from Jakarta to the State Capital of Nusantara or IKN in East Kalimantan.
Article 1 of the DKJ Law states that Jakarta is a provincial region with specialties in administering government as the National Economic Center and Global City.
Heru Budi believed that the ratification of Law No. 2 of 2024 on DKJ is paramount for Jakarta's future.
“First, of course, we appreciate it. The DKJ Law has been passed, as the President has signed it. It is surely the best for Jakarta,” Heru said at Jakarta City Hall in Central Jakarta on Monday, April 29, as reported by Antara.
Heru aspired that Jakarta could immediately adopt the articles contained in the law. Presently, he said that the city administration was still awaiting the Presidential Decree (Keppres) to formalize the relocation of the capital from Jakarta to IKN.
“Hopefully, Jakarta can implement what is stated in the articles well. Now we just have to wait for the Presidential Decree,” he added.
Heru claimed that he did not know when the Presidential Decree would be issued. Nonetheless, he asserted that the implementation of all existing articles would be judiciously executed for the sake of Jakarta's progress.
