BMKG Logs 63 Earthquakes in Sukabumi in One Week

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency or BMKG logged 63 earthquakes in Sukabumi and its surrounding areas from Dec. 6 to 14, 2023.
The most recent earthquake recorded was on Thursday at 6 p.m. WIB (Western Indonesia Time) at magnitude 3.2. According to BMKG, the epicenter was at 6.73 Southern Latitude and 106.55 Longitude West.
The exact location was 28 kilometers north of the center of Sukabumi Regency, West Java. The earthquake was shallow, with a 10-kilometer depth, and caused by an active fault activity, according to the head of BBMKG Tangerang Hartanto in a statement on Thursday.
The earthquake was felt by people in Pamijahan District, Bogor Regency at level II of the MMI scale. BMKG so far has not received any reports concerning damages caused by the quake.
Earlier in the day, a tectonic magnitude 4.6 earthquake jolted Sukabumi, Bogor, and Banten on Thursday at 06:35 a.m. WIB.
According to the head of the Data, Information, and Communication Center of the National Disaster Mitigation Agency or BNPB Abdul Muhari, around 347 Sukabumi and Bogor residents were affected by this earthquake. They were 309 Bogor residents and 38 Sukabumi residents with 12 in Bogor forced to seek shelter due to damages at their houses.
Initial review found 8 houses are moderately damaged while 81 others are lightly damaged in Bogor Regency. Meanwhile, 2 houses were moderately damaged and five houses were lightly damaged in Sukabumi Regency.
