TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Minister of Sports and Youth Dito Ariotedjo believed that holding the U-17 World Cup strengthened the foundation of the Indonesian national team.
According to Minister Dito, the precious experience obtained through the U-17 World Cup has given the team players a taste of the atmosphere of a world-class football stage.
"The players felt a great atmosphere during the U-17 World Cup, and it will certainly become a strong foundation for us in the future. [The team] gained an extraordinary experience and faced such strong opponents," he said on Thursday.
Minister Dito also said the players under Coach Bima Sakti already have a strong mental presence.
"The Indonesian national team, I believe, has been progressing nicely. It's also apparent through the efforts of PSSI (Football Association of Indonesia) to bring a coach consultant from Germany (Frank Mormuth) for the U-17 World Cup," he added.
Additionally, the minister also thanked President Joko Widodo for his total support for sports development in Indonesia, including through the U-17 World Cup. He also expressed gratitude toward the enthusiasm of the general public who attended the games directly at the stadiums.
The U-17 World Cup is now entering the final round, a match between Germany and France at Manahan Solo Stadium this Saturday.
"I'm glad that many people come to watch at the stadiums, they have such high enthusiasm to witness the actions of future star players," he concluded.
