TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono commented on the flooding that occurred in the west entrance area or west ramp of the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) last night, November 14, 2023. The flooding was reportedly caused by cables that clogged the water channels.
“As the Managing Director of Jakpro said, many cables are blocking the flow of water,” Heru Budi said when met in Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Wednesday, November 15, 2023.
Heru claimed that the cables were blocking the flow of rainwater into the canal, resulting in flooding. He thus ordered the Jakarta Water Resources Agency (SDA) to take action to address the issue.
“This morning I ordered the SDA to pay attention to the water channels around JIS,” he said.
Earlier, videos of the flooded area were circulated on social media, showing U-17 World Cup spectators passing through the area near the JIS Stadium without wearing footwear. They complained about the flooded roads after heavy rains in the city.
“The heavy rain that hit the North Jakarta area this evening has flooded the JIS area. Several supporters were seen taking off their shoes and sandals. Tuesday, November 14, 2023. Via @infopriok,” an Instagram account @jakut.info posted the video with the caption.
The Jakarta International Stadium (JIS) is currently hosting the 2023 U-17 World Cup, with group matches scheduled for November 11-12, November 14-15, and November 17-18. The round of Sixteen is set for November 22, and the Quarter Finals on November 24.
