TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) chief Erick Thohir expressed his gratitude for the successful ticket sales for the 2023 U-17 World Cup.
“We are surely grateful for the high public interest in the U-17 World Cup [as ticket sales] have exceeded the target by FIFA. This proves that the U-17 World Cup is an entertaining and interesting show for the people,” Erick, who is also the chairman of the youth tournament’s organizing committee, said in a written statement on Thursday, Nov. 23.
The local organizing committee reported that over 514,000 tickets have been sold so far, with an average stadium attendance per match of around 11,681 spectators, surpassing FIFA's target of 10,000 spectators per match.
The matches are held at the Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya, Manahan Stadium in Solo, Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung, and the Jakarta International Stadium (JIS).
The average number could increase further as the competition enters its final phase. At present, the tournament would enter the quarter-finals phase, with the eight remaining teams being Spain, Germany, Brazil, Argentina, France, Uzbekistan, Mali, and Morocco.
“The last eight matches will be an interesting spectacle, especially the classic world matches between Brazil vs Argentina and Spain vs Germany at JIS. These are matches that should not be missed,” Erick Thohir said.
