Magnitude 3.5 Earthquake Shakes Sukabumi

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A tectonic earthquake measuring magnitude 3.5 jolted Sukabumi Regency, West Java. The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded it occurred on Saturday, Nov. 25, at 06:36 Western Indonesia Time (WIB).
The epicenter was at the coordinates of 7.03 degrees South Latitude and 106.65 degrees East Longitude. It was 12 kilometers southeast of Sukabumi Regency.
The hypocenter was shallow at 12 kilometers. "The quake was caused by the activity of the Cimandiri Fault," said the head of BBMKG's region II of Tangerang, Hartanto, in a written statement on Saturday, Nov. 25, 2023.
The tremor could be felt surrounding the Suabumi areas at level II-III of the MMI scale. BMKG said there had been no report on damaged buildings caused by the earthquake.
Based on its observation until 6:55, there were no aftershocks. The people are asked to remain calm and uninfluenced by baseless rumors.
