6.6M Earthquake Jolts Maluku This Morning

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reported that a 6.6-magnitude earthquake jolted the northwest of West Halmahera, North Maluku this morning.
The earthquake occurred at around 09:48 a.m. WIB (Western Indonesia Time) on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2023.
BMKG recorded that the center of the quake was located at 1.77 North Latitude and 127.14 Longitude West or 68 kilometers away from northwest of West Halmahera with a 109-kilometer depth.
According to BMKG, there was no potential for a tsunami triggered by this earthquake. The agency warned Halmahera residents to be vigilant of any possible aftershocks.
The tectonic earthquake was also felt in Manado City, North Minahasa Regency, Sitaro Regency, Talaud Islands Regency, and North Sulawesi, according to a text conveyed in a group chat between BMKG and its stakeholders in Manado.
