TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gianni Infantino, the President of the world football's governing body FIFA, expressed his excitement for the U-17 World Cup set to be held in Indonesia from November 10 to December 2, 2023.
“The FIFA U-17 World Cup 2023, which will be hosted by the beautiful country of Indonesia, is only two months away and I am very excited for the tournament to begin,” Infantino wrote on his Instagram account on Sunday, September 10.
He said many of the world's football icons were born out of the youth tournaments. He also uploaded photos of Ronaldinho from Brazil, Gianluigi Buffon from Italy, and Phil Foden who were part of the England U-17 national team that won the tournament back in 2017.
“Previous editions of the event have featured multiple players who have gone on to become icons of the game and achieve great accolades, including winning the FIFA World Cup,” he added.
According to him, FIFA’s global stages through diverse youth tournaments are the perfect launch pad for young talents.
“My best wishes to the President of the Football Association of Indonesia (PSSI) Erick Thohir, the PSSI team, and everyone involved in hosting a fantastic tournament that will see future superstars continue their journey on this stage!” Infantino added.
The 2023 U-17 World Cup will be played in four stadiums, namely Jakarta International Stadium or JIS with a capacity of 82,000 spectators; Gelora Bung Tomo Stadium in Surabaya (50,000); Si Jalak Harupat Stadium in Bandung Regency (27,000); and Manahan Stadium in Solo (20,000).
