Police Receive 25 Reports of Rocky Gerung Hoax Case

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police received more reports on the alleged fake news (hoax) spread by the political observer Rocky Gerung. Initially, on Friday last week, the police received 13 reports on the case. Yesterday, on Thursday, August 10, 2023, the police reports have gone up to 25 reports. 

Director of General Crime in the Police Criminal Investigation Unit (Bareskrim) Brig. Gen. Djuhandhani Rahardjo Puro said on Thursday that the reports were received by his institution and other regional police departments.

Out of the 25 reports, two were received by Bareskrim, four were received by the Jakarta Metro Police, three were received by the North Sumatra Police, eleven by the East Kalimantan Police, Central Kalimantan Police received three reports, while Yogyakarta received two reports.

According to Djuhandhani, all of the reports were delegated to the police headquarters due to the same object and subject matter. "The Directorate of General Crime has been delegated 15 police reports," he said.

Currently, the police are examining the reports and have not summoned Rocky Gerung for a statement. "(Rocky Gerung) have not been summoned, the police are still collecting evidence, witnesses, and experts," he added.

The police reports were based on the violation of Article 14 and/or Article 15 of Law No. 1 of 1946 concerning the Criminal Code.

The reports were submitted following the viral video of Rocky Gerung criticizing President Jokowi.
