TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Homegrown tech unicorn Tokopedia commented about the alleged ticket sales of the Indonesia vs Argentina match by middlemen, or locally known as calo, through its e-commerce platform.
On Tuesday, June 6, Tempo found sellers in the e-commerce offering category 3 tickets at a price of Rp3.3 million, while the original price is Rp600.000.
Tokopedia's Head of Corporate Affairs, Ekhel Chandra Wijaya, said the firm has terms and conditions regarding products that are allowed and not allowed on sale.
“Tokopedia bans the sale of show tickets, both physical and non-physical. This includes tickets for sports matches,” Ekhel said in a written statement, on Wednesday, June 7, 2023.
He emphasized that Tokopedia will take firm action against all forms of misuse and/or violations. Even though using a user-generated content (UGC) system which allows each seller to upload their products independently, Ekhel said the firm takes proactive steps to keep activities on the platform in accordance with applicable regulations.
“If sellers are proven to have violated both the terms and conditions of the platform and the applicable law in Indonesia, Tokopedia has the right to take action by carrying out inspections, delaying or dropping down content, deactivating shops or accounts, and other actions according to the procedure,” he explained.
Ekhel further asked the public to report any activities violating the platform’s regulation, including the sale of football match tickets “at https://www.tokopedia.com/help/product-breaking-conditions.”
