TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian national team is set to face Argentina in the match of FIFA Matchday on June 19, 2023, in Jakarta. Bali United coach Stefano Cugurra believes that the match will benefit the Garuda team and supporters.
“Indonesian players will gain experience playing against a team that has just won the World Cup,” Stefano said in Gianyar, Bali, on Tuesday, May 23.
According to him, the match will be a long-waited moment for Indonesian football fans as they highly support teams from big countries, such as Brazil, Spain, France, Italy, and Argentina.
“Supporters can also see the World Cup winning team in Indonesia, at GBK Stadium, watching a high-level football play,” said the coach who is familiarly called Coach Teco.
A Bali United player Tegar Infantrie claimed he enthusiastically welcomed the match against a team with a world player Lionel Messi. He said it is an honor for Indonesia.
“Argentina plays a huge role in international football,” Tegar said as quoted from Bali United’s website.
The FIFA Matchday match will be the first for Indonesia against Argentina at the senior level. The two countries had met at the junior level at the 1979 FIFA World Youth Championships in Japan.
