TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs and Investments Luhut Pandjaitan, in his foreign visit to China’s multinational corporation China Jushi Co. Ltd on Tuesday, urged the fiberglass producer to invest in Indonesia.
China Jushi, which is headquartered in Tong Xiang, is considered one of the world’s major fiberglass producers that has a global sales and service network. The United States and Egypt are among the countries where the company has established production branches.
The company had previously visited Indonesia one year prior to survey and research possibilities of establishing a plant in Indonesia.
“The high global demand for fiberglass has eventually motivated me to urge them to open a factory in Indonesia,” said Luhut in a post published on his Instagram account on May 23.
A fiberglass factory in Indonesia, Luhut said, can pose as strong support for the industrial downstream program heavily promoted by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo or Jokowi. Especially considering Indonesia has a wealth of silica sand which is the basic raw material for the industry.
"Thus, silica sand, which is abundant in this country, will not only be mined and exported raw but will provide tens of thousands of derivative industries which will provide increased added value to the commodities processed,” said the investments coordinating Minister.
