TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta Acting Governor Heru Budi Hartono mulled enforcing the Work From Home or WFH policy during the ASEAN Ministerial Meeting and Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) and the 43rd ASEAN Summit in the city in a bid to prevent traffic congestion.

The ASEAN Ministerial Meeting and Post Ministerial Conference (PMC) will take place on July 13 and 14, while the ASEAN Summit will be held on September 5-7, 2023.

“What needs to be further discussed is the traffic. Perhaps, the WFH policy will be applied on July 13-14 and September 5-7. This is still being discussed,” Heru said at the Jakarta City Hall, on Tuesday, May 23, 2023.

He said the idea will be discussed with Jakarta Metro Jaya Police Chief Inspector General Karyoto and Jayakarta Regional Military Commander Major General Mohamad Hasan.

As the Chair of ASEAN 2023, Indonesia holds two ASEAN Summits this year. The 42nd ASEAN Summit took place on May 9-11 in Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara, and the 43rd ASEAN Summit is slated to be held in Jakarta on September 5-7.

The May summit was devoted to ASEAN member countries. Whereas in the September summit, ASEAN will invite and hold talks with partner countries. They include ASEAN+3 with China, Japan, and South Korea and ASEAN+CER (Closer Economic Relations) with Australia and New Zealand.
