TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has warned people of potential heavy rains and bad weather in several regions in Indonesia during the Eid Homecoming period.
"For the 2023 Eid Homecoming period, we need to be cautious for the potential of heavy rain in Aceh, South Sumatra, West Java, North Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, and Papua," stated BMKG's Public Meteorology Centre Head Fachri Ridjab at a press conference on anticipating effects of increasing intensity of 98S and 90W cyclone seeds, on Saturday (April 8).
He noted that other regions that might see rain during the same period are Bangka Belitung, Banten, Greater Jakarta, Central Java, East Java, Yogyakarta, Central Kalimantan, South, Central, and Southeast Sulawesi, Maluku, and Papua regions.
Meanwhile, BMKG's Maritime Meteorology Centre Head, Eko Prasetyo, appealed to residents seeking to return home for Eid by sea to be cautious about the potential of high tides.
"Need to avoid sailing around the western waters of Sumatra, the southern waters of Java until Nusa Tenggara as well as in the northern waters of Papua. The area must not be sailed and must be avoided at all costs," Prasetyo said.
The meteorology centre head also asked residents to anticipate possible delays due to rainy weather expected to occur in various places throughout Indonesia.
"Rain also potentially occurs in most ports in Indonesia, hence, vigilance or adaptation measures is a must for travellers seeking to return home for Eid by sea," he said.
Prasetyo affirmed that BMKG would continue providing information about weather conditions and wave heights to keep travellers updated with the latest information before embarking on their journey by sea.
