TEMPO.CO, Tangerang - Soekarno-Hatta Airport authorities nabbed three fake police officers who extorted prospective Indonesian Migrant Workers at the airport. The three criminals were FF, 21 years old; IK, 22 years old; GEJ, 34 years old.
"The perpetrators disguised themselves as Soekarno-Hatta Airport police to frighten the victims and commit extortion," said the chief of Soekarno-Hatta Airport police, Commissioner Reza Pahlevi, Saturday, March 18.
Disguising the airport police officers, the perpetrators extorted and robbed the three migrant workers; AR, 26 years old; PB, 24 years old; and R, 22 years old. The victims were going to the Philippines using Cebu Pacific Airlines on March 5.
"The victims are illegal migrant workers that were about to leave for the Philippines," Reza said.
He explained that the three fake cops openly intercepted the illegal migrant workers who were going abroad with airsoft guns. "The victims then were forced to enter the car driven by IK and that's when the extortion took place."
The perpetrators took the victims' cash, mobile phones, documents, passports, and ID cards, as well as called their agency to ask for ransom. "The victim suffered a loss of around Rp8 million," said Reza.
The actions of the fake cops were detected when Avsec officers of Soekarno-Hatta Airport heard the screams of the three migrant workers at the Terminal 3 parking lot. "The Avsec officers immediately came up and reported the incident to the police" he added.
Based on the police investigation, the fake cops were later known to have done their crimes in different locations, such as Sukabumi, Garut, and Kalimantan. The fake police officers are facing nine years of imprisonment.
