Tornado Destroys 340 Houses in Bekasi's South Tambun

2 March 2023 18:48 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Bekasi - South Tambun sub-district head Junaefi said the number of houses damaged by the tornado has reached 340 today, March 2, increased from the previous data of 121 houses.

“340 houses are damaged at a mild to severe scale,” he said.

According to him, the local government continues to receive data on damaged houses in the South Tambun area, Bekasi Regency. The natural disaster hit the region on Wednesday, March 1.

The three affected villages are Mangunjaya, Sumberjaya, and Tridayasakti. The most destroyed houses were located in Sumberjaya Village totaling 164 units.

Meanwhile, in Mangunjaya, 102 houses were damaged, and 74 houses were damaged in Tridayasakti. He said most of the affected houses suffered damage to their roofs.

“On average, most of the roofs are torn apart by the wind. Then there is one house that collapses,” said Junaefi.

The Bekasi Regency Government in tandem with the National Zakat Amil Agency (Baznas) tried to repair houses that were badly damaged. Meanwhile, the houses that were slightly damaged by the tornado were repaired by local residents independently.

“We have asked Baznas and Disperkimtan (Bekasi Housing, Settlement, and Land Affairs Office) to repair severely-damaged houses,” Junaefi said.
