TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo said he intends to continue the expansion of Komodo Labuan Bajo Airport in East Nusa Tenggara’s West Manggarai Regency to better facilitate international tourists.
"We will continue to improve the facilities that are lacking. This is the Komodo Airport, the terminal, which has been widened. It's still not wide enough, if it gets fuller, it will be packed, so it must be expanded again," said Jokowi during the inauguration of the airport on Thursday, July 21.
Jokowi explained that according to a report from the Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi, the length of the airport runway needs to be increased by 100 meters, which he believes is crucial to open the airport to international flight routes.
After inaugurating the airport, Jokowi and his entourage will depart for Rinca Island, West Manggarai Regency, aboard a traditional ship. There, the President will inaugurate the Rinca Island area, Komodo National Park project.
