TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Indonesia continues to see high numbers of new Covid-19 cases per day. On Thursday, June 23, the Health Ministry recorded 1,907 new infections and four deaths over the last 24 hours.
With the addition of today's cases, Indonesia's Covid-19 total caseload now reaches 6,074,825 since the first infection was first identified back in March 2020.
Indonesian authorities today also reported 1,146 new recoveries, bringing the country's number of Covid-19 survivors to 5,905,971 people.
To date, 156,706 people in Indonesia have died from the new coronavirus.
In Jakarta, the daily transmission rate has been increasing since May following the emergence of new sub-variants of the Omicron, the BA.4 and BA.5.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said there were no plans to tighten community activities yet, unless hospital rooms' occupancy begins to rise.
The new Omicron sub-variants have also been identified in West Java. "There has been an increase in Covid cases, especially in Bogor City, Bekasi City, Depok City, Bogor Regency, and Bandung City. But [the rise is] still within the control range," West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil said yesterday in Bandung.
