TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan claimed that U.S. electric car manufacturer Tesla was satisfied with the data on the potential of Indonesia's nickel industry. Luhut said he hosted meetings with the American automaker’s team in his office today.
“The Tesla team is in my office now,” Luhut said at an online press conference on Monday, May 9, 2022.
He added that he planned to take the Tesla team to Morowali, Central Sulawesi, which has the largest nickel mine in the archipelago. Nickel is used as a raw material for batteries for electric vehicles or EV.
“They were very satisfied with the data they got so far,” Luhut said.
The meeting was a follow-up on Luhut's visit to Tesla's headquarters SpaceX in California, United States, on April 26, 2022. At the time, Luhut claimed the meeting made Tesla CEO Elon Musk interested in the potential investment in Indonesia’s nickel industry.
