TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) is monitoring television shows during Ramadan in order to encourage the spread of enlightening messages for viewers.
“All television programs broadcast during the holy month of Ramadan must provide enlightening spiritual and religious, moral teachings,” said the council’s information division head Mabroer in a written statement, Thursday, April 7.
This Ramadan program, he added, has been routinely carried out by MUI since 2005. Television stations that do not promote spiritual and educational values will be given a warning note and urged to improve the quality of their content. Meanwhile, those complying with MUI’s recommendation will receive an award.
“Hopefully, they can maintain the achievement in the following years,” Mabroer added.
The monitoring program, he informed, is organized by MUI’s information division in tandem with the council’s da’wah commission and others.
“Television is an agent of change, be it behavior, understanding, or civilization. It is vital for us to monitor television shows together. If not, it is feared that civilization will be difficult to control in the future,” Mabroer said.
