TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tangerang City administration announced a policy overseeing the operational hours of businesses amid the holy month of Ramadan. The region’s agency for culture, tourism, and parks has imposed a mandatory use of curtain covers for food and beverage businesses until 5 in the afternoon.
Head of the agency Muhammad Noor says that restaurants, cafes, and similar businesses are permitted to remain open during the day - where the Muslim majority are fasting - but requires these businesses to cover its food and beverage display with curtains during the day.
Operational hours are also curbed until 9pm under strict health protocols amid the pandemic mobility restriction.
The use of curtains to visually cover the display of food, he says, is meant to preserve inter-religious tolerances and in respect to the Ramadan month.
“We are ready to sanction businesses that violate the operational hours during Ramadan,” said Noor on Monday, April 4.
Meanwhile, other businesses such as spa, massage parlors, and billiard joints are not permitted to operate during the whole month of Ramadan.
