West Java Increases Booster Vaccination Ahead of Eid al-Fitr Homecoming

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil has said that the province’s COVID-19 Task Force will increase the coverage of booster vaccinations throughout the region to anticipate a high mobility of people due to Eid Al-Fitr homecoming trip.
"We are increasing the vaccination coverage, especially the booster one, since the president has ordered that only people who have had booster vaccinations are allowed to make the homecoming trip," he remarked in a statement here on Sunday.
Hence, he said he has appealed to West Java residents to follow the directives and thus. they can conduct the homecoming tradition smoothly and improve the herd immunity.
“Thus, actually, everyone is allowed to make a homecoming trip, provided that they have received the third vaccination dose,” the governor stated.
He continued that the administration of the booster vaccines was also carried out by the provincial government through mass vaccination in collaboration with the national Indonesian Broadcasting Commission (KPI), West Java regional KPI, West Java Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) and West Java Indonesian Young Entrepreneurs Association (HIMPI).
The mass vaccination activity was held in Bandung City on March 26-27, 2022, with a target of 4,000 people as a series of activities to celebrate the 89th National Broadcasting Day.
The national day is commemorated every April 1 in accordance with the President Decree Number 9 of 2019.
Earlier, President Joko Widodo had announced at a virtual press conference at Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on March 23, 2022, that the community were allowed to make Eid Al-Fitr homecoming trips if they have received the primary and booster vaccination shots.
The president added that Muslims could also conduct congregational Tarawih prayer, a prayer which is usually performed together at night on Ramadan month, at the mosques in accordance with health protocols.
