TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan attended the Tawur Agung Kesanga ceremony, an event held one day ahead of Hindu's Nyepi Day celebration, or Day of Silence, at Aditya Jaya Temple in Rawamangun, East Jakarta on Wednesday, March 2.
In his speech during the event, he mentioned the importance of the roles of the Hindu community in developing Jakarta by always maintaining inter-religious harmony.
"We hope the leaders of the Hindu community will always be the connectors that strengthen, tighten the inter-elementary relations of society for the betterment of Jakarta," said Anies.
He hoped the Day of Silence would be a momentum to self-reflect and start new. "Hope this will be a chance to reflect, clear up, and start a new chapter in the Saka new year," said the Jakarta Governor.
Anies' attendance at the ceremonial event was a form of support from the Jakarta Provincial Government in the series of commemorations of the Nyepi Day of the Saka New Year 1944.
"On this occasion, I'd like to once again say Happy Nyepi Day 1944, and today I have the chance to attend the Tawur Agung Kesanga ceremony," he said.
Anies Baswedan, donning Balinese traditional clothes, also met with a number of the temple managers and representatives of the Hindu community.
