TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Transportation Council (DTKJ) chairman Prayitno said the council suspected that one of the causes of the rising number of Transjakarta bus accidents was the driver's posture that did not match the bus design. According to him, the vehicles used by the city’s bus operator are designed for the European market, not Asia.
“Body posture is one of the causes of the collision at the traffic police station. There is a blank spot area and causes the driver to not see the whole scene. This is what causes the driver to hit road separators, motorbikes,” said Prayitno in Menteng, Central Jakarta, Wednesday, December 29.
Therefore, the council recommended the bus operator modify the bus cabin in a bid to minimize the blank spots for drivers. The council also objected to a recommended option of adding CCTV to resolve the issue.
“Too many CCTV cameras will be too much of a burden for drivers,” said the council’s head for the research and development commission Leksmono Surtyo Putranto.
Based on the council’s data, Transjakarta recorded the most incidents among the city’s transportation modes as there were 508 incidents throughout 2021.
DKTJ also recommended Transjakarta conduct periodic health checks for drivers and provide lodging facilities for drivers with early duty.
