TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) said the police’s special detachment or Densus 88 had taken action on 364 alleged terrorism cases throughout 2021. Two Jamaah Islamiyah (JI) and Jamaah Ansharut Daulah (JAD) are two terror groups that Densus had dealt with the most.

BNPT recorded 178 cases involving JI members and 154 cases involving JAD members. “We know that JI and JAD have been declared disbanded by the district court,” said the agency head Comr. Gen. Boy Rafli Amar on Tuesday, December 28.

In addition to JAD and JI, Densus also took action on 16 terrorism cases involving members of the East Indonesia Mujahidin (MIT) and 16 other cases linking members of the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI).

Boy Rafli said the majority of those arrested are still under examination and investigation. Around 332 cases are still being investigated and three cases have been handed to the prosecutor's office.

Most of the cases were handled in March totaling 79, followed by April with 74 cases and August with 62 cases.

The BNPT head also mentioned that terror groups that are still quite active in Indonesia besides JI, JAD, and MIT, are Jamaah Ansharul Khilafah (JAK), Jamaah Ansharusy Khalifah (JAS), and the Islamic State of Indonesia (NII).
