TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The West Jakarta Police will be guarding churches during Christmas Eve and Christmas Day mass. Police Chief Sr. Comr. Ady Wibowo said that in total officers will safeguard 135 churches on December 24 and 25.
"The level of security measures and portions in all churches will be the same," Ady said at the West Jakarta Mayor's Office on Thursday, December 23.
According to Ady, in securing Christmas mass at churches the police will receive help from the Satpol PP and residents. The West Jakarta Metro Police will also communicate with church administrators to ensure that the Christmas mass complies with health protocols.
For holding Christmas mass under Covid rules, church capacity is limited to 50 percent. "However, on average [the churches] only allocate around 30 percent," he said.
In addition to limiting the number of churchgoers, Ady said that the churches must provide hand washing stations, body temperature measurement, and hand sanitizers.
Ady said West Jakarta is deploying 2,000 officers and personnel from the police, the 0503 Military District Command, and the West Jakarta City Government to secure Christmas and New Year. Officers are also tasked with anticipating crowd gatherings that may lead to Covid-19 outbreaks.
